Eastern Runway Remediation Works

Hamad International Airport is undertaking a major rehabilitation of its Eastern Runway to reinforce safety, efficiency, and sustainable performance. These essential upgrades ensure the runway continues to support smooth, reliable operations and deliver a world-class experience for all passengers.

At 4,850 meters, the Eastern Runway is a critical asset supporting Hamad International Airport’s operational capacity and quality performance.

The works have been carefully planned and phased to ensure uninterrupted airport operations. Our East RWY 16L-34R will remain operational with reduced length during phases 1, 2 and a full closure scheduled during the 3rd and last phase from 13 April to 10 June 2026 at 23:59 UTC.

About the Program

The remediation program is designed to maintain the runway’s long-term resilience and compliance with international aviation standards. It includes:

  • Concrete reconstruction at both the ends of the runway surface and asphalt in the middle.
  • Upgrades to Airfield Ground Lighting, systems.
  • Enhancements to drainage and electrical infrastructure.
